New data reveals products’ environmental impact

Challenge

How can a textile manufacturer contribute to more informed product choices in one of the most resource-intensive industries in the world? For Kentaur, it’s about responsibility and transparency throughout the value chain – and about giving customers access to knowledge they can act on.

That’s why Kentaur has implemented a system for managing and presenting extensive LCA data (cradle-to-gate Life Cycle Assessment) directly on product pages. With this solution, customers gain a clear, fact-based overview of the environmental impacts associated with the products – and thus a stronger foundation for making informed choices.

Customer needs

Kentaur’s customers – primarily distributors and professional laundries – have an increasing need for documentation and insight. The goal was therefore to present validated environmental data in a way that is accessible and useful in everyday operations.

We helped Kentaur integrate LCA data into their digital product universe, making it visible directly within the purchasing experience. This provides customers with insights into CO₂ emissions and other parameters included in the life cycle analyses.

At the same time, the solution supports easier reporting for tenders and internal documentation.

Words from Kentaur
By providing LCA data, we enable our customers to make more informed decisions. With the goal of increasing the use of primary data – and thereby improving data quality – we can ensure transparency, knowing it is a prerequisite for responsible choices in a complex industry.

Data presentation

The LCA data were developed and validated in collaboration with Made2Flow and uploaded into Kentaur’s PIM system. Vertica handled the website integration and designed the data presentation to communicate the information clearly and in a structured way without overwhelming the user.

The solution focuses on key parameters—such as land use, climate change, and human toxicity—but is flexible and can be expanded as both the data foundation and customer needs evolve.

Industry responsibility

Although the textile industry is among the most polluting, Kentaur believes this imposes a responsibility—not to communicate perfect solutions, but to take accountability and provide customers with genuine insight into the products’ impact.

This solution is a step toward more transparent and responsible product communication, where data speaks for itself—without glossing over the reality.
